Hillside First School

Background

Hillside is one of around 250 Schools mapped by Dorset Outdoor Education Service between 2004-6. They are part of the Wimborne Academy Trust of x 12 Primaries and managed from the Queen Elizabeths Seconday School in Wimborne. Several of these schools were mapped but havent been teaching Orienteering or using the maps for many years. As a update on an existing Map file takes far less hours work than a brand new Map drawing, costs are accordingly less. (New maps and course installation around £600)

A new headteacher took over management of Hillside in September 2022, and knows Jason from his work coaching x 4 classes during 2021-2 at Parley First School where he was Deputy Head.

Work Undertaken.

After establishing School would take on Orienteering as part of its Outdoors and Adventurous Activity P.E. provision, P.E lead was informed. First visit included face to face meeting with P.E lead, and a walk around the entire site to discuss the areas to be used. Important with both updates and new maps to establish the extent of the Orienteering course, where out -of bounds and best use. Jason then onsite for the rest of visit re-surveying prior to changing map files on OCAD program.
